![]() Note: |
became citizen on 15 November 1900 Arrived in Baltimore, MD on 18 April 1883 aboard Hohenzollern from Bremen, Germany, with Ernestine 8, Hermann 7, Albert 6, Robert 3, Anna 11 months, and wife Henriette. William became a citizen on 15 Nov 1900, Witnesses Fred Bartelt, Thomas Quinn. Roll 4, Vol C, Document #71. After the death of William's first wife, Bertha Bartelt Kienow in 1875, William met and married Henriette. She became the new mother for Albertine Kienow (Niner) and Herman Kienow, ages 4 and 1. In 1877, Albert was born, followed by Robert in 1879 and Anna (Schmidt) in 1881. In 1883 the family left for the U.S. in the spring with five children, ages 12 to 2. Henriette was also expecting her fourth child. This had to be a difficult trip for her. Somewhere between Germany and Faribault, 4 year old Robert disappears. Did he die on board ship? At this writing we have no idea what might have happened to him. Records in Faribault (Trinity Lutheran) tell us of the confirmation of the other children but nothing about Robert. Henriette gave birth to a daughter, Ida, on Oct. 1, 1883, about 5 months after arriving in Faribault. 1885 Minnesota Census - Roll 40: William Kenow 38, Henriette 37, Tina 13, Herman 11, Albert 8, Anna 3, Ida 1 #268 line 164 William died from fall off train - was a section hand. From Trinity notes: Verunglueckte (Victim, casualty) an der Bahn (Railroad). Fuenf erwachsene Kinder (Five adult children). William's burial was in Maple Lawn Cemetery - Faribault, Niner Lot, Sec. E 20, 7 Dec 1903. |
